Who is the KITAS investor visa for – and what are the benefits from it?

All you need to know about the KITAS investor visa The cost of a work permit is one of the most suspicious things about getting a visa in Indonesia – especially for new business owners! However, in 2019, the Indonesian government re-launched the KITAS investor visa which made it easier to obtain, as well as some huge financial savings.

In this article, we interview Osama Al-Mikhlafi, the Visa and Immigration Expert at pt.Almaha for public services who tells us all about it!

First: What is the KITAS investor visa and when was it submitted?

The KITAS investor visa is a visa designed specifically for business investors in Indonesia, allowing them to live and run their business within the country with relative ease.

Although the KITAS investor visa has already been in effect since 2011 based on Law No. 6 of 2011 which was later edited back in 2018, it wasn’t until major changes to the brand were noticed in 2019 – making this type One of the most popular visas in the country is KITAS.

What are the advantages of choosing a KITAS investor visa over a KITAS work visa?

In accordance with BKPM’s subsequent amendments to BKPM Presidential Resolution No. 5/2019, Indonesia offers additional benefits to investors residing in Indonesia. Before this regulation was issued, it was necessary for investors to apply for KITAS, along with a work permit that costs $1,200 per year, as mandatory capital.

Because of this amendment, work permits are no longer necessary for holders of KITAS investors – reducing visa expenses by $100 per month / $1,200 per year.

How much money do people generally save when choosing a KITAS investor visa?

If you qualify for the KITAS investor visa, you can save a small fortune. As the duration of the investor visa may be one year or two years, depending on your choice.

For example, by choosing a two-year KITAS investor visa, you will save $2,400 over the term due to the non-compulsory DPKK fund as well as the annual KITAS investor visa processing and associated costs.

Who can apply for a KITAS investor visa?

Before obtaining a KITAS investor visa, the company’s authorized capital must exceed IDR 10 billion and there must be a minimum of 25% of the authorized capital paid up. As for companies established before 2009, it is possible to invest less capital.

Finally, the investor must first have a value of at least one billion rupees in personal equity invested in the PMA and hold the title of director or delegate.

As an Investor that holds no position in a PMA company, but with personal shares of over IDR 1.125.000.000 (one billion, one hundred and twenty-five thousand rupiah), you will also be eligible to apply for an Investors KITAS, however work is not permitted.

Can you work with a KITAS investor visa?

If you are an Investor that is stated as a Director, you are allowed to work while holding an Investor Kitas. This is stipulated in Manpower regulation ‘’Permenaker No. 10 Year 2018 on Article 10, Article 22, and Article 26 point C.

If an Investor is stated as a Commissioner, you are not allowed to work – but you can still get the facility of maximum 2 years stay permit. If you, as a Commissioner, also want to be allowed to work, you will need to have minimum IDR 1,125,000,000 (one billion, one hundred and twenty-five thousand rupiah) share ownership of the company.

Is the KITAS investor visa renewable or do you need to cancel it once the term expires?

Yes, it is renewable.

Is it possible to obtain a KITAP investor visa?

Yes, this is possible.

Can a company apply to more than one investor KITAS?

Yes, one company can apply to more than one investor KITAS as long as the foreigner’s shares are mentioned in the company’s incorporation deed and the shares are a minimum of IDR 1 billion.

Can a KITAS investor support dependent visas?

Yes, the KITAS investor can support dependents.

What is the method, to obtain a KITAS visa and how long does it take?

Since the recommendation letter from BKPM is no longer needed, getting a KITAS investor visa is faster than it used to be. Now we can apply online, directly to the immigration authorities, and within days your e-Visa will be granted.

Until October 2020, all visas in Indonesia have been processed and what was known as TELEX has been sent to an Indonesian embassy abroad. Due to the Covid pandemic, the Indonesian government has introduced electronic visas to mitigate the risks of spreading the virus. The visa costs that were previously paid to the embassy are now being paid to the government at the application stage in Indonesia.

All you need to know about the KITAS investor visa

Once you’ve entered Indonesia, you need to convert your VITAS to Investor KITAS. This process will approximately take 10-14 working days. After you submit your passport to the immigration office, you will get a schedule for a biometric session and then wait for the final steps of conversion. After the process, you will receive your New Investor KITAS which allows you to live and manage your company in Indonesia.

What documents do you need to get a KITAS investor visa?

Required documents include:

  1. Investor’s passport with minimum 18 (eighteen) months validity for 1-year KITAS application
  2. Company’s deed of establishment and its amendments (if any)
  3. Ratification from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (MoLHR) of company sponsor / SK Kehakiman Pendirian Perusahaan dan Perubahannya (if any)
  4. Tax Registration Number (NPWP) of company sponsor
  5. Business Domicile
  6. Business License
  7. Business Identification Number (NIB)
  8. ID Card (KTP) and Tax ID (NPWP) of the Indonesian Director of company sponsor (if needed)
  9. Blank document with company’s letter head
  10. Bank account statement with minimum balance USD 1500

Please note that the granted term depends on the passport validity of the applicant – if the passport validity is at least 18 months, you will be granted a KITAS investor visa for one year only, while if the passport validity is more than 30 months, you can get a KITAS investor visa for one year two years.

How much does a KITAS investor visa cost?

There are 2 options for the Investor KITAS, a 1-year and a 2-year KITAS. In Jakarta our prices are 15 Million IDR for the 1-year KITAS and 18 Million IDR for 2-years. Most people opt for the 2-year option as it provides security and increases overall saving over the term of visa.
